Though luminal-casting is not plastination, it is always discussed along with plastination for the fact that it gives a great appealing idea about the structures with lumen. It is not necessary that specimen used for lumonal casting has to be preserved with formalin. Once the resin in cured, tissue around cast is removed revealing the cast, which is the true representation of lumen itself.
Any organ with cavity like blood vessels, veins or any other cavity can be used. Various color resin can be injected to artery and vein of same organ, which give a contrast and differentiation between artery and vein.
Silicone give the best result because it generally has a tendency to repel water, and do not stick to the tissue, but it has to be mounted in appropriate medium to prevent from collapsing and distorting the anatomy.
Even resin can be injected into arterial system of a whole body to reveal the entire arterial pattern of the body.
